Former Swedish midfielder, model signs with Sounders FC

SEATTLE - Former Swedish national team captain Fredrik Ljungberg has signed with the Seattle Sounders FC.

He's the fourth player signed by the expansion Major League Soccer team.

Ljungberg was introduced during a news conference Tuesday at the team's home stadium, Qwest Field. He is the Sounders' designated player, a rule designed to allow MLS teams to sign one international player with only a small portion of their salary counting against the salary cap.

The midfielder previously played for Arsenal and West Ham United in the English Premier League. He's a two-time player of the year in Sweden and has played in two World Cups.

Ljungberg was also a Calvin Klein underwear model until 2007.

He has been rated one of the "hottest" male athletes by Sports Illustrated. Esquire Magazine named him one of the best dressed males in 2007.

One Web site has named him the sexiest footballer of all time, according to information on the Sounders FC's Web site.

The Sounders will play their first season next year of Major League Soccer.
